A Message from Your Administrative Team:

Hello Grapeview Family,

The month of December is the perfect time for reflection. As we finish off one year and look forward to the next, we encourage you to take some time with your young Gryphons to celebrate the achievements, successes and joys they've experienced over the past year. We hope that you were able to join us for our first in-person Parent-Teacher Interviews in 3 years, and would like to extend our gratitude to you for helping to make it a wonderful success. Such a great opportunity to connect to discuss the progress of your children and next steps in their learning. Please join us for our upcoming Night of STEM (this Thursday Dec 8th), our Scholastic Book Fair (Monday Dec 5th - Thurs Dec 8th), and our Kindergarten Winter Celebration (Dec 21st for Kinder Families). We are so excited to invite you to attend events in the school again.

We look forward to the many exciting accomplishments and learnings your children will have in 2023. This Winter Break, remember to take time to appreciate one another and to share special moments with your loved ones. We wish you nothing but the best as we finish off the year together.

Yours in Education,

Mrs. Libera (She/Her) and Mr. Hogg (He/Him)

Your Grapeview Administrative Team

Ancestral Land Acknowledgement used by Grapeview and the DSBN:

This year, Jamie Groat, our Indigenous Education Consultant and a member of the Tuscaroura Nation, visited Grapeview classrooms from grades 1-8 to teach and discuss with students the importance of the Land Acknowledgement. The students enjoyed interacting with the artifacts that Mr. Groat used to bring to life the history and long standing agreements.

A Land acknowledgement is a customary practice of Indigenous
Peoples. It is a sign of respect and reciprocity when entering,
gathering and utilizing another’s space and place. Indigenous
Peoples continue this practice amongst their Nations. Today the
practice is beginning to be understood and utilized to renew,
respect, reconcile and reciprocate Indigenous and
non-Indigenous relations. The practice also serves as a reminder
of pre and post-European contact histories, treaty relations and
obligations, as well as providing information for newcomers, now
entering Indigenous territories. Today acknowledgements are
used for opening announcements in schools, events, gatherings
and meetings; that specifically recognize the Nations who hold
treaty, right and title in the territory.

We use the Land Acknowledgement at our school gatherings and use it to begin each week on the announcements.

Keeping our School Safe and Healthy

If you have a child with a Prevalent Medical Condition (Anaphylaxis, Asthma, Diabetes, and/or Epilepsy) we want to make sure we have a current Plan of Care to support your child.

The Plan of Care form is a new document that replaces the Emergency Action Plan. All parents of children with Prevalent Medical Conditions are asked to fill out the new Plan of Care and submit to the school.

You can download the forms here dsbn.org/prevalent-medical-conditions.

For more information, please contact the school.

More Ways to Communicate:

Grapeview has a variety of ways to communicate with our families and we want to make sure you all have the opportunity to engage with the methods that work best for you. In order to be more eco-friendly we try to avoid sending paper copies home as much as we can.  We are committed to keep our website up to date with important information, School Advisory Council updates, important dates, monthly newsletters, etc. We also have a Twitter Feed: @GrapeviewSchool for us to update the community as well.

Scent Aware-Reduced Environment:

Grapeview is a Scent-Reduced Environment: many people have a sensitivity to odours, smells, and scents. Please do not wear, or send your child with, perfume, cologne, after shave, or scented body lotion into the school.
